2 dead, 6 injured in stabbing, hacking

BACOLOD City – Two persons died while six others were injured in separate stabbing and hacking incidents here and in Negros Occidental on New Year’s Day.

In Hinoba-an town, Vivincio Responte, 60, of Barangay Alim died after he was alleged hacked to death by 30-year-old Arnel Walog at Barangay Asia.

Responte was found dead along the road with hack wounds on the back of his neck, throat, and chest.

Barangay officials and watchmen arrived and saw the suspect who was allegedly drunk, reportedly washing his arms and hands with blood few meters away from the victim’s body.

The suspect tried to run away but he was chased and arrested. He is now under police custody.

In Kabankalan City, Julius Rupon, 35, of Barangay Salong was allegedly stabbed to death by a certain “Pet-Pet” at the said village.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Jonel Guadalupe, city police chief, said the victim was talking to his friend when the suspect suddenly attacked him with a bladed weapon.

The victim sustained a stab wound on his abdomen and was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead. The suspect fled.

Guadalupe said they are eyeing grudge as the motive behind the killing.

Another stabbing incident was also reported at Barangay Pinaguinpinan in the said city, victimizing Amado Abello, 57, of the said village while he was drinking and dancing during the New Year’s Day celebration.

The victim was stabbed on his stomach and is confined at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) here.

In E.B. Magalona town, Rocky Landon, 32, of Barangay Alicante was injured after he was also stabbed at the said village. He is confined at CLMMRH.

In Bacolod City, 63-year-old Jesus Flores was wounded after he was allegedly stabbed by his 25-year-old son twice on his back at Barangay Punta Taytay after they engaged in a heated argument.

The victim sustained two minor injuries and refused to press charges against his son, who fled.

Also wounded at Barangay Alijis here was Roberto Espartero, 35, of the said village after he was allegedly stabbed by his 57-year-old mother-in-law, who was suffering from a nervous breakdown.

In Murcia town, a couple was injured after they were hacked at Barangay Minoyan.

Police identified the victims as Jose Gemalhin, 44, and his partner Lourdes Fernandez, 28.
