BACOLOD City – Two suspected members of the Special Partisan Unit (Sparu) of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in a clash with military troops at Sitio Agpapatao, Barangay Binobohan, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental last Friday.
Slain were Edgar Bonifacio and Randy Canumay, both residents of the said village, who were identified by the Army as among those responsible in the killing of civilians in the cities of Guihulngan and Canlaon.
The 12-minute- firefight occurred when the 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) encountered about 10 armed men while they were approaching the area for combat operation, following reports on the alleged presence of NPA.
Lieutenant Colonel Egberto Dacoscos, 62nd IB commander, said in a press statement, that the two casualties were part of the group that continuously threatens the people who will not cooperate with them.
Authorities recovered from the site two .45 caliber pistols, a .38 caliber pistol, four magazines of .45 caliber loaded with live ammunition, ammunition of .38 caliber, improvised shotguns, and several subversive documents.
