2021 highlights of events in education (Conclusion)

In September 2021, the PRC released the results of Licensure Examinations for Teachers (LET) given in 26 testing centers nationwide. Four thousand eight hundred eighty-three (4,883) out of 8,726 or 55.96% passed the LET-Elementary. Ten thousand three hundred eighteen (10,318) out of 17,863 or 57.76% passed the LET-Secondary.

Western Visayas Region performed high in both LET-Elementary and LET-Secondary examinations, or with passing percentages higher than that of the national average.

In the top ten LET-Elementary successful examinees, Meldy Senayo Lubrico of Central Philippines State University-Victorias Campus (CPSU-Victorias) ranked number 10. In the top ten LET-Secondary successful examinees, Bryan Paul Landar Espinosa of Central Philippine University and Shenry Jun Antiza Esparagoza also of Central Philippine University ranked number 6 and number 10 respectively.

While Karen Mallorca Gardose of West Visayas State University ranked number 9 in the said examination for Secondary Teachers. The region’s passing average in the LET-Elementary was 68.62%. This is higher than the national passing average. On the other hand, the Region passing average in LET-Secondary was 68.04%. This is higher than the national passing average.

The PRC Board of Nursing announced that 51.46%, passed the Nurse Licensure Examination (NLE) in November 2021. This is lower than the July 2021 NLE performance of 64.6% passing percentage. IA Hanna Ballares Samillano of Riverside College, Bacolod City ranked number 4 and Albert Christian Longno Senador of Central Philippine University, Iloilo City ranked number 10 among the successful examinees who garnered the 10 highest places in the national level. The Region passing average was 57.34%. This is higher than the national passing percentage.

On November 25, 2021, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) conducted a Gawad Parangal Program to award the top-performing higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Region.

Among the awardees were Central Philippine University as Autonomous HEI; Center of Excellence (COE) in Agriculture and Business Administration; Center of Development (COD) in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Teacher Education;
QS World University Rankings; and Outstanding Board Performance in Civil Engineering and in Agriculture. The University of San Agustin was awarded Deregulated Status and COD in Teacher Education. University of Saint La Salle was awarded Autonomous Status and COD in Teacher Education.

UP-Visayas was awarded COE in Fisheries and Outstanding Board Performance in Fisheries Technologists. ISAT University was awarded COD in Teacher Education. John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University was awarded Autonomous Status.

Filamer Christian University was awarded Deregulated Status. Aklan State University was awarded COD in Agriculture. Iloilo State College of Fisheries was awarded COD in Fisheries. La Consolacion College – Bacolod was awarded Outstanding Board Performance in Interior Design. TUP-Visayas was awarded Outstanding Board Performance in Mechanical Engineering. Carlos Hilado Memorial State College was awarded Outstanding Board Performance in Civil Engineering. Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod was awarded Outstanding Board Performance in Medical Technologist.

Iloilo Doctor’s College was awarded Outstanding Board Performance in Midwifery. University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos was awarded COD in Information Technology. And West Visayas State University was awarded Highest SUC Level in Western Visayas; COE in Teacher Education; COD in Nursing, Agriculture and Forestry; Outstanding Board Performance in Nursing, Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET-Elementary), and Physician.

On the other hand, CHED awarded Institutional Recognition to four (4) Local Colleges in the Region: La Carlota City College, Iloilo City Community College, Bacolod City College and Passi City College. The awarding of top-performing HEIs in the Region was spearheaded by Chairman J Prospero E. De Vera III of the Commission on Higher Education.
