Twenty-eight barangays in Iloilo City were placed under localized lockdowns in response to the still increasing cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas issued Executive Order (E.O.) No. 147 on Thursday imposing localized containment measures on 28 barangays from Sept 17-20, 2020.
Total lockdown will be imposed on Sitio Taytay in Brgy. Simon Ledesma in Jaro and Zone 4 in Brgy. Concepcion in City Proper.
Other barangays under surgical lockdown were M.H. Del Pilar San Isidro, Bito-on, Buntatala, Cubay, and Tabuc Suba in Jaro; Calumpang, Infante, San Juan and East Baluarte in Molo; and Ingore, Aguinaldo, Nabitasan, Jalondoni Estate and Magsaysay in LaPaz; and Bo. Obrero, Sinikway and Rizal Lapuz Sur.
In City Proper district, Gen. Hudges, Monica, and Zamora Melliza will also be placed under surgical lockdown.
The lockdown will also be imposed on Bolilao and Bakhaw in Mandurriao district and Sta. Cruz and San Jose in Arevalo.
According to City COVID-19 Team spokesperson Jeck Conlu, barangays which were placed on lockdown recorded not less than three cases.
“We lowered down our criteria in placing barangays under lockdowns. So those with three cases, automatic ipaidalom na naton sa surgical lockdown,” Conlu said in a press conference on Thursday.
While surgical lockdown only meant localized containment of the affected areas, Conlu said total liquor ban and adjusted curfew hours will now be imposed in the entire barangay under surgical lockdown.
The curfew will be implemented from 8 pm to 4 am.
“Maghambal kita surgical lockdown, targeted ang areas nga ginpaidalom sa lockdown. In the case of Simon Ledesma and Concepcion, we placed one of their zones and areas under total lockdown. But iklaro naton nga ang liquor ban and curfew will be imposed sa bilog gid nga barangay kon napaidalom ini sa surgical lockdown,” he explained.
Holding of mass gathering like birthday parties and celebrations will also be prohibited in barangays placed under surgical lockdown, Conlu reiterated.
Based on the reported cases of the City COVID-19 Team, majority of those who were tested positive contracted the virus during mass gatherings such as drinking sprees and birthday celebration.
“Dira gid sa mga mass gatherings naghalin ang mga kaso especially sa mga gaimnanay. May kaso kita didto bilog gid sila nga pamilya nagpositibo sa Covid-19,” Conlu said. (ERS)
