5.6% of COVID cases in city were fully-vaccinated

Only 5.6 percent of the 16,198 confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Iloilo City were fully vaccinated against the virus, data from the city government as of August 28, 2021 indicated.

A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the second dose of the vaccine for two-dose jabs.

According to the Iloilo City government’s data, 1,713 COVID cases were inoculated before they were infected. 922 were fully vaccinated while the remaining 791 received the first dose.

Based on presence of symptoms, 458 (55 percent) of fully vaccinated persons with breakthrough infections were asymptomatic, while 361 (44 percent) had Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and 6 (1 percent) were severe.

Majority of vaccinated COVID cases, or 1,139, received Sinovac (487 on first dose, 652 fully vaccinated); followed by AstraZeneca with 402 (250 on first dose, 152 fully vaccinated), the one-dose Janssen (101), Pfizer with 69 (52 on first dose, 17 fully vaccinated), and Sputnik with 2 on first dose.

22 vaccinated cases died, or 0.04 percent of the total COVID cases, and 7.91 percent of the total deaths in the city (278).

14 of these fatalities received the first dose (7 each on both AstraZeneca and Sinovac), and the remaining 8 were fully vaccinated (6 Sinovac, 1 Pfizer, and 1 Janssen).

 

COVID IN 2021

The city’s latest COVID situationer provided by the City Epidemiological Surveillance Unit (CESU), also showed that 11,506, or 71.03 percent, of the city’s total COVID cases were contracted in 2021.

A bulk of these 2021 cases, 11,118 (68.63 percent) were local cases.

Others were categorized as Authorized Persons Outside of Residence or APOR (126), Locally-Stranded Individuals or LSIs (180), and Returning Overseas Filipino Workers or OFWs (82). These were also recorded in 2021.

Most of the cases in 2021 are asymptomatic (7423 or 67 percent), while others either had ILI (3,448 or 31 percent) or Severe Acute Respiratory Infection or SARI (243 or 2 percent).

The city has currently 1,346 active cases (12 percent), 9,494 recoveries (85 percent), and 278 deaths (3 percent).

From August 1 to 28, an average of 31 new COVID cases were recorded daily, a lower trend compared to previous months’ daily averages (70 in July, 94 in June, and 45 in May).

More than half or 55.61 percent of the local cases were female (6,183), while the remaining 44.39 percent were male.

By age group, 2,919 (26.25 percent) of the local cases in 2021 were 21 to 30 years old, followed by 31 to 40 years old (2,099 cases), 41 to 50 years old (1,477 cases), 51 to 60 (1,343 cases), 61 to 70 (1,078), 11 to 20 (1,008), 1 to 10 (545), 71 to 80 (428), 81 to 90 (185), above 90 (23), and below 1 year old (13).
