TUPV installs biz incubator for start-ups in Negros Occ

THE Technological University of the Philippines Visayas was selected by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) as a partner institution to establish a Technology Business Incubator (TBI) in the province of Negros Occidental.

The facility will operate at the Antonio Chan Memorial Technical Training Center located in Marapara, Brgy. Bata, Bacolod City.

The program officially started on May 1, 2019 and applications for entrance into the incubation program is already open to would-be startups.

From the original 45 universities across the country that applied, only the top twenty were selected by the panel of experts from DOST.

TUPV received a 10 Million peso grant for the establishment and operation of the TBI facility.

 

INCUBATION PROGRAM

According to the DOST, “Technology Business Incubation (TBI) is one of the strategies identified to promote innovation and technopreneurship for the country’s socio-economic development in a knowledge-based economy.” The aim of the program is to help startup technology-based businesses by providing a range of resources, services and facilities necessary for the development stage of the business. The end goal is for firms to leave the incubation program financially viable and able to sustain the operation and compete in the market.

 

DOST-TUPV HIVE

Hub for Innovation and Value Engineering, or HIVE, is TUPV’s TBI facility. It is fully-equipped with locator startup offices, a conference/training area, common equipment room and co-working spaces. In addition, all available facilities and services at the TUPV Campus will also be accessible to the start-ups in the program. This will include laboratories and shops for product research and prototyping, legal counselling and Intellectual Property management, mentoring from TUPV faculty and alumni, networking events, investor pitching, business development and marketing.

The services of HIVE are open to all technopreneurs in the province. Application is now open to technology-based startups.
