BACOLOD City – A two-year-old boy was hurt and his sitter was seriously injured after they were allegedly sideswiped by a Ceres Liner bus at Barangay Poblacion, Toboso, Negros Occidental last Thursday.

Police withheld the name of the child while the babysitter was identified as Jenifer Rotante, 34, of Barangay Poblacion.

Police Major Joery Puerto, town police chief, said the bus driven by Oliver Senoron, 39, of Calatrava town dropped a passenger at the area.

When it was already moving towards San Carlos City, the child suddenly crossed the street, Puerto said.

Rotante tried to save the child but she was dragged three meters away, Puerto said.

Puerto said the child fainted and sustained minor injuries while Rotante sustained serious injuries on both her legs. Both were rushed to a hospital here.

Puerto said Rotante will undergo surgery due to severe fracture on her legs. She might be amputated, he added.

Meanwhile, Puerto said Senoron was released from police custody yesterday morning after the lapse of the 18-hour detention period.

“We are waiting for the victim’s family if they will file charges against the bus driver,” he added.

Puerto said the Vallacar Transit Inc., already extended medical assistance to the victims.
