Panaad sa Negros, town fiestas cancelled

BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson announced Monday the cancellation of the Panaad sa Negros Festival on April 20-26, 2020 at the Panaad Park and Stadium.

Lacson told reporters here that the consensus to cancel the Panaad sa Negros festival was reached after a meeting with the different chief executives of the towns and cities in the province amid the threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19.

Panaad sa Negros festival, dubbed as the mother of all festivals in the province, gathers all localities in the province in their respective pavilion at the Panaad Park and Stadium to showcase the best of their products as well as their festival dance.

Apart from Panaad, also cancelled was the Banana Festival of La Castellana town held every first week of April.

Moises Padilla Mayor Ella Garcia-Yulo, on the other hand, said Hinuptanan Festival of the town is postponed to May instead of holding it in the last week of March.

Earlier, Lacson also issued Executive Order No. 20-15 implementing the closure of borders, ports, and airports in the province of Negros Occidental.

But Lacson said the province remains COVID-19 free.
