The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office completed 15 multi-purpose buildings (MPBs) in various towns in northern central Iloilo. These buildings will serve as vital hubs for diverse community activities, including social gatherings, meetings, sports events, and essential shelters during emergencies.
Based on the report of District Engineer Allan Rey R. Pajimna, OIC-Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel emphasized that these projects are specifically designed to fortify community resilience and enhance social interaction, offering numerous benefits to the residents.
“These buildings represent a crucial investment in our communities. They protect during disasters and serve as centers for social interaction and community growth. We believe they will play a pivotal role in strengthening the bonds among our residents and enhancing their quality of life,” Director Oropel highlighted.
Recently, DPWH has provided fifteen (15) MPBs in various towns in the province, with a collective amount of ₱50.1 million. Five (5) of these MPBs are located in Calinog, four (4) in Lambunao, three (3) in Maasin, and one (1) each in Janiuay, Bingawan, and Cabatuan.
In Calinog, a remarkable ₱14.9-million Gymnasium Dome project in Barangay Libot is in progress, while in Barangay Simsiman, a ₱4-million project covering 450 square meters is also underway. Meanwhile, in Barangay Ipil, there is a ₱3.1-million project spanning 405 square meters, a ₱2-million covered gym project in Barangay Dalid, and a ₱2.3-million MPB in Barangay Guibunyogan.
In Lambunao, in Barangay Pajo, a ₱2-million initiative covers 459 square meters. Meanwhile, Barangay Coto has a ₱3.2-million project spanning 405 square meters. Another ₱2-million project in Barangay Buri, also spanning 405 square meters. Lastly, in Barangay Walang, a ₱2-million project enhances the MPB.
In Maasin, there is a ₱3.2-million covered gym in Barangay Sta. Rita, a ₱3.2-million project in Barangay Piandaan East, covering an area of 338 square meters, and a ₱2-million project spanning 469 square meters.
In Janiuay, a ₱3.2-million project in Barangay Tiringanan spans 280 square meters. In Cabatuan, specifically in Barangay Bulay, a ₱3.1-million project covering 364 square meters is underway. Meanwhile, in Bingawan, an evacuation project in Barangay Tapacon with a budget of ₱3.2 million is also in progress.
The completion of these 15 MPBs signifies a significant stride toward a more resilient and united Northern Central Iloilo, fostering a sense of security and community among its residents. (DPWH-6)
