BACOLOD CITY – Another shooting incident occurred here yesterday, this time in Barangay Sum-ag, while police were conducting roving patrols in the adjacent Barangay Punta Taytay.
Police Captain Michael Tuburan, head of Police Station 9, identified the victim as Gregg Alvin Gelito, 39, of Barangay 35.
Tuburan said the victim was about to ride his pick-up truck when two unidentified motorcycle-riding suspects passed by him and shot him in the head.
The victim had just finished eating lunch with his driver in the area when the attack happened around 1 p.m. He was taken to South Bacolod General Hospital, where he was declared dead.
Recovered from the scene were three spent bullets and two deformed slugs from a 9mm caliber firearm. Tuburan reported that the victim’s driver, who was already inside the vehicle, was unharmed.
The suspects were wearing helmets. Police are looking for closed circuit television (CCTV) footage to aid in the investigation.
Tuburan noted that they responded to the area immediately after receiving a report about the incident.
Aside from the mobile patrol, Tuburan said motorcycle cops were also roving in the nearby village.
Authorities are waiting for a statement from the victim’s family to gather more details that may help establish the motive and identify the perpetrators.
Last week, three other shooting incidents occurred in Bacolod, killing three people, including a 12-year-old boy in Barangays Taculing, 2, and 12.
These incidents were under the jurisdictions of Police Stations 6, 2, and 1, respectively.
