In an era where digital transformation is key to business survival and growth, GCash, the Philippines’ leading finance super app, is proving to be a critical ally for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
By providing accessible and innovative financial services, GCash has become an essential tool for these businesses, many of which are traditionally underserved by the banking sector.
One notable success story comes from Davao Premium Food Venture Co., a franchisee of popular food brands in the country. For the past three years, GCash has been a cornerstone of their business strategy.
Owners Kay Anjella Alcober and Jarre Cubio report that GCash now contributes a significant 5% to their company’s revenue, emboldening them to plan further expansions.
“This demonstrates how GCash is a key part of businesses’ growth strategies,” said Alcober.
The impact of GCash is also evident in smaller community-based businesses.
Madelyn Leonin, owner of DKM Pharmacy, shared that since becoming a GCash Pera Outlet Partner a year ago, she has seen an additional Php12,000 in monthly income. This extra revenue stream underscores the role of digital finance in enhancing business profitability.
Similarly, Ailyn Javier’s Icy Cyberia Internet Cafe and sari-sari store have become a neighborhood staple, attracting customers due to the ease of GCash transactions.
These examples highlight GCash’s broader mission to bring financial inclusion to MSMEs.
According to GCash B2B General Manager Jong Layug, MSMEs represent over 99% of businesses in the Philippines, contributing 35% to 40% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
“GCash’s commitment is to create a dynamic and responsive financial ecosystem that enables these businesses to thrive. When small businesses grow, they also spur growth in their communities,” Layug emphasized.
Looking ahead, GCash for Business is set to unveil new innovations designed to further streamline operations for MSMEs.
Among these is a feature allowing retail and food and beverage businesses to accept GCash payments with just a tap, reducing transaction times and the need for additional staff.
An upcoming audio QR code terminal will provide instant payment confirmations, easing the transaction process for customers and businesses alike.
Moreover, GCash’s DigiCities program is expanding to 27 cities across the Philippines, aiming to digitize local economies by empowering businesses with financial literacy and digital marketing tools.
The initiative, supported by partnerships with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and StartUp Village, promises to make MSMEs more competitive in the digital landscape.
As GCash continues to evolve and adapt its services, it remains a vital partner for businesses of all sizes in the Philippines, driving economic growth and financial inclusion across the nation.
