Twenty-eight farmers from Guimaras participated in an entrepreneurship seminar on October 16, 2024, as part of the Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan (KSK) Sustainable Agriculture Program.
The event, held in Barangay Poblacion, Nueva Valencia, was organized by SM Foundation Inc. and facilitated by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Guimaras, aiming to empower local farmers and boost economic growth on the island.
Led by Junior Business Counselors Michelle Toledano and Jessa Marie Tibajares, the seminar covered essential topics such as entrepreneurship, financial literacy, basic business recording, and business plan preparation.
The goal was to equip farmers with skills to manage farm enterprises, ensuring sustainable livelihoods and fostering food security in the province.
“The training helped spark the farmers’ interest in starting businesses, and we received five formal inquiries on business name registration and three inquiries about loan programs,” Toledano said.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to uplift rural communities in Guimaras through entrepreneurship, supporting farmers in becoming self-sufficient and improving their economic prospects.
