DOLE Distributes PHP9.9M in Aid in Capiz

ROXAS CITY — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) distributed PHP9.9 million in assistance to informal workers and livelihood projects in Capiz as part of the Bagong Pilipinas Caravan of Services on Oct. 12.

Over PHP8 million was allocated under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program, benefiting around 1,700 informal workers in Roxas City and the Municipality of Panay. The payout included the ceremonial release of salary vouchers, directly aiding families struggling with economic instability.

DOLE Regional Office 6, through its Capiz Field Office, also disbursed PHP960,000 for livelihood support to 32 parents of child laborers from Barangay Dumulog, Roxas City. The funding aims to provide sustainable income sources to parents, helping to keep their children in school and away from child labor.

Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr. emphasized the role of community solidarity in sustaining these projects. “Cooperation and unity among the beneficiaries are essential for the sustainability of the projects,” he said, adding that livelihoods are crucial to ensure that “children can go to school and stay away from child labor.”

Additional assistance included PHP500,000 for the Egg Machine Project for 24 members of the Humwad Olalonians Farmers Association in Barangay Olalo, Pilar, and another PHP500,000 for the Gourmet Tuyo Production Project supporting 22 fisherfolk members of Barangay Navitas Fisherfolks Association in Panay.

The DOLE’s initiatives at the Bagong Pilipinas Caravan showcased a wide range of government services, aiming to provide financial relief and improve quality of life in vulnerable communities across Capiz.
