The most wanted man in Aklan province was captured on the evening of March 21 in Kalibo, Aklan.

Edcel Quindong, a 23-year-old market stall helper from Barangay Calizo, Balete, Aklan, was apprehended at his workplace on Toting Reyes St., Poblacion, Kalibo.

The joint operation involved members of the Balete Municipal Police Station, Kalibo Municipal Police Station, and the Aklan Provincial Tracker Team. They arrested Quindong under an arrest warrant for murder, issued in connection with Criminal Case Number 17144.

The warrant was issued by Judge Domingo Lasmarias Casiple Jr. of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) 6, Branch 7, Kalibo, Aklan on March 19, 2024. No bail has been recommended for his temporary release.

Major Bryan Alamo, the Balete police chief, reported that Quindong and his friend, known as Mart, were accused of murdering a man identified only as Dex in Barangay Calizo on October 8, 2023.

Mart had already been killed in a separate shooting incident in November 2023 in Banga, Aklan.

During the October incident, two individuals, Jan and Dex, sustained multiple injuries from a hacking assault. They were transported to a hospital, but Dex was declared dead upon arrival.

Quindong initially claimed that during a drinking session, Dex, who was armed with a bolo, confronted him and Jan, Dex’s brother-in-law. As the argument escalated, Jan and Dex reportedly attacked each other with the weapon. Subsequent investigations, however, suggested potential collusion between Quindong and Jan.

Alamo mentioned that Quindong was likely unaware of the arrest warrant against him. The suspect is now detained and awaiting further legal proceedings.
