Antique gets top award in TESDA’s reg’l tilt

SAN JOSE, Antique – A 20-year old student of Advance Central College (ACC) here was adjudged as winner of the Technical Education and Skills Development (TESDA) 2019 Regional Skills Competition.

John Aaron Ponsaran bested contestants from Leon Ganzon Polytechnic College and New Lucena Polytechnic College during the three-day cooking contest conducted by the Regional TESDA Training Center.

Ponsaran, who hails from Barangay Inato in Anini-y, Antique, is taking up Bachelor of Hotel Management (major in Culinary Arts Technology) at the ACC.

He said that for three days, the competition started to heat up when they whipped up delicious creations for the three world skills recommended standard test projects.

The contestants during the event executed the test project for Module 1 in the preparation of Vegetarian Canapes and Lemon Meringue Pie; Module 2: Mystery Seafood Pasta and Main Course Mystery Fish; and for Module 3- Chicken Consomme, Lamb Loin and Chocolate Coulant.

The ingredients were provided by TESDA.

According to TESDA Antique Provincial Director Jose Ma. Jerry Hallares, cookery is one of the trade areas held during the skills competition to search for the best competitor who would be representing the region in the national and international competition.

Hallares also encouraged students from various Technical Vocational Institutions here to join in the competition next year in other trade areas such as in the construction, welding, automotive, IT program and many others.

“Aside from bringing honor to the school, province, and country, this skills competition will likewise help our youth turn their passion into a profession,” said Hallares as he emphasized that TESDA is with full support to Ponsaran’s preparation for the national level competition. (PIA)
