Antique PDRRMO sets resilience campaign, capability demo

SAN JOSE, Antique – The Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) is set to conduct a disaster resilience information, education, and communication (IEC) campaign and capability demonstration, July 13-15, at the Robinsons Antique Activity Center.

The IEC campaign and capability demonstration, which include video presentations, interactive games, and equipment and skills demonstration, form part of a series of activities in line with the celebration of the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2022 this July.

With the theme “Sambayanang Pilipino, nagkakaisa tungo sa katatagan at maunlad na kinabukasan,” the NDRM celebration seeks to unite Filipinos towards resiliency and sustainable development.

In a radio program, July 6, PDRRM Officer Broderick Train highlighted the importance of strengthening public awareness on disaster risk reduction, management and response to lessen the effects of calamities, adding the great deal of benefits of preparing ‘Go Bags’ or survival kits.

He also urged community members to assist in reporting disaster indicators, such as rising water levels, to the appropriate authorities as early warning leads to early action.

Train also urged Antiqueños to practice self-help and mutual help during disastrous events, saying that people must secure themselves and their families first before extending assistance to others, when possible.

He added that a community flood drill will be conducted in Brgy. Esperanza, Sibalom town on July 22 for a learning experience for various PDRRM offices from across Region VI.

The month-long disaster resiliency celebration kicked off on July 1 with a caravan of emergency and disaster response assets from the members of the PDRRM Council (PDRRMC).

The PDRRMC is chaired by Governor Rhodora Cadiao and has members from various national government agencies and provincial government offices, like the Department of Science and Technology, Department of Public Works and Highways, Bureau of Fire Protection,

Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, and the Provincial Planning and Development Office, among others. (PIA)
