As cases spike, dengue kills six in Capiz

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Six persons in Capiz succumbed to dengue as the number of victims escalates.

Based on the data from the Department of Health (DOH)-Capiz, 864 dengue cases were recorded in the province from January 1 to May 4, 2019. The number is 602 percent higher to 123 cases in the same period last year.

Also, six persons died of the infection. The fatalities are from the towns of Pontevedra, Dao, Ivisan, and Pres. Roxas.

Meanwhile, the DOH renewed its call to the public to prevent dengue by implementing the enhanced 4-S strategy in their households.

The 4-S strategy stands for:

-Search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites,

-Self-protection measures like wearing long pants and long sleeved shirts and daily use of mosquito repellent,

-Seek early consultation, and

-Support fogging/spraying only in hotspot areas where increase in cases is registered for two consecutive weeks to prevent an impending outbreak.
