BACOLOD City – A one-year-old baby girl died while her parents were injured after a pick-up truck sideswiped their tricycle at Barangay Vista Alegre, Ilog, Negros Occidental last Saturday.

Police withheld the name of the fatality.

Wounded were tricycle driver Sonny Boy Ancaja, 30, and his live-in partner Mae Ann Dominguez, 20, both residents of Barangay Dancalan.

Police Staff Sergeant Adonis Sebala, traffic investigator of Ilog Municipal Police Station, said the family was on their way home when a pick-up truck that was tailing them allegedly hit the rear part of their tricycle.

Sebala said the 41-year-old pick-up truck driver failed to see the tricycle because the latter had no lights.

“Dulom na da nga daan na area plus wala pa suga ang tricycle,” he added.

Sebala also said that the pick-up truck driver was believed to be speeding as the impact caused the motorcycle to separate from the sidecar.

Sebala said the victims were taken to a hospital, but the baby later passed away due to severe head injuries.

The couple was referred to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here and is now stable.

Sebala said the pick-up truck driver was released on Sunday, following an initial settlement between the parties.
