BACOLOD City – The 61 barangays here notched a 94 percent accomplishment in road clearing operations ordered by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, according to the city hall.

A team from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) will arrive here today, October 2, 2019, to validate the claim.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the 94 percent achievement “is already something that we can be proud of.”

He thanked barangay officials who cooperated and volunteered to clear the roads in their respective areas.

Butch Soliguen, executive assistant for barangay affairs, said of the 61 barangays, at least 29 have reported 100 percent accomplishment, while some claimed to have cleared more than 90 percent of the roads in their jurisdictions.

The lowest accomplishment is 70 percent.

Soliguen said 11,070 illegal structures were dismantled. Their target was 11,700. But he assured that road clearing operations will continue even after the deadline last Sept 27.

Barangay 41, which is a business district, was not included in the clearing works. He recalled that while doing the clearing operations, they encountered threats from affected owners of buildings and other obstructions, but they still implemented the President’s order.
