A bakeshop employee was killed in a knife attack Sunday afternoon in La Paz, Iloilo City.

Police identified the victim as Gelcor Malungayon, 26, a native of Pilar, Capiz. He succumbed to injuries on his body.

The suspect, 22-year-old Steven Antiqueña of Barangay Balabag, Anilao, was immediately arrested and is now detained at La Paz Police Station.

The incident happened at a boarding house in Ledesco Village in Barangay Tabuc Suba where both the victim and the suspect were staying.

Prior to the stabbing episode, Antiqueña and Malungayon went binge drinking near their boarding house.

The two allegedly had a misunderstanding and quarrelled until they reached their room.

Police said the suspect got irked after the victim turned off the radio.

The petty argument prompted Antiqueña to attack the victim.

But another version of the incident claimed that the two had quarrelled after the suspect mentioned about the alleged infidelity involving the victim’s girlfriend.

This prompted Malungayon to punch the suspect.

A witness claimed to have heard a commotion and later saw the bloodied victim and the suspect holding a knife.

Antiqueña initially denied attacking the victim but later on owned up to the crime.
