BACOLOD City – The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-6 will send two personnel to thoroughly investigate allegations against one of the jails here pertaining to an alleged “contact” of drug suspects.

Atty. Jairus Anthony Dogelio, spokesperson of BJMP-6, said they welcome any information and will be coordinating with the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) on the matter.

In February, Major Joery Puerto, head of Police Station 8, made such allegations, which prompted the BJMP-6 to probe the matter and conduct a series of greyhound operations to ensure that drug peddling from jails are stopped.

In fact, the BJMP-6 has already dismissed such accusations, denying claims that it is neglecting the jails and tolerating illegal drug deals.

Dogelio even said that five jail officers were relieved from their posts at that time pending the investigation on the said matter.

But Puerto again revealed to the media that some of the recent arrested drug suspects again pointed to someone inside a BJMP facility as their alleged “contact” in the illegal drug trade.

Puerto said the alleged “contact” would usually communicate with the suspected peddlers through video call using a cellular phone, which is prohibited inside the jail.

Dogelio said they are exerting all their efforts to ensure that no contraband can sneak inside the facility.

He said they will coordinate with the local police to determine whoever, or whichever committed negligence or irregularities.

He said that if a jail officer will be identified to have been involved in the said allegation, they will not hesitate to impose sanctions or even dismiss them from the service.

He said the two personnel are expected to arrive here this week. From there, they will be able to verify such allegation and make the necessary measures.
