A security guard was wounded after his service firearm allegedly discharged evening of April 10, 2022.

The incident happened while Elmer Macandog, an employee of Executor Security Agency, was on duty at the Iloilo Electric Cooperative (ILECO)-1 area office in Gen. Luna Street, Barangay Poblacion South, Oton, Iloilo.

Macandog, 41, a resident of Barangay Dorong-an, Tigbauan, Iloilo, allegedly tucked his 12-gauge Armscor shotgun in his back.

But he accidentally pulled the trigger and the pellets wounded his back, right hand, and right side of his pelvis.

Members of the Oton Search and Rescue Team (OSART) rushed Macandog to Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City for treatment.

Captain Richard Lao, Oton PNP deputy chief, said the victim was alone when the incident happened.

But while it was believed that he was on duty, Macandog was in civilian clothes and was reeking with liquor.

“We’re still verifying his duty hours and why he was not wearing his uniform,” Lao said.

He added that they would also ascertain if Macandog was indeed drunk while on duty.

Police recovered from the scene the shotgun loaded with an ammunition and an empty ammunition shell.
