The arrested person of interest in the killing of a Slovakian tourist in Boracay claims he was a witness, not a perpetrator.
In his affidavit of confession, alias Mik, 28, a resident of Boracay Island, pointed to his two friends, alias Jelo and alias JR, as those responsible for sexually assaulting and killing Michaela Mickova.
Mik was arrested during a drug buy-bust operation on March 14, two days after Mickova’s body was found at an abandoned chapel in Zone 3, Sitio Pinaungon, Barangay Balabag, Boracay Island.
On March 16, he was charged in court for violating Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
Mik claimed that while in detention, his conscience weighed on him, prompting him to contact police personnel and express his desire to testify against his companions.
Mik’s Account of the Crime
Mik recounted that on March 10, he spent the day tending to his kayak business before planning to have drinks at a friend’s house.
He invited Jelo and JR to join him, but they left when their friend was not home.
Around 6:10 p.m., they were in front of a hotel when Mickova arrived.
Mik claimed he did not know the victim, but Jelo spoke briefly with her before the four of them headed to the abandoned chapel.
Jelo allegedly led the way while holding Mickova’s wrist.
At first, she did not resist, but as they reached the area, she tried to break free.
Mik said he was focused on his mobile phone when he heard a loud smack.
To his shock, he saw JR holding a piece of wood, which he used to strike Mickova on the back of her head.
JR hit her twice more, causing her to lose consciousness and collapse.
The two men then carried Mickova inside the chapel and laid her on the cemented floor.
Mik said he later saw Jelo with his shorts pulled down.
He questioned what was happening but left after hearing the voices of young boys nearby.
Mik then went to drink at his friend’s house.
More than 30 minutes later, Jelo and JR arrived, but they did not discuss what happened.
They all drank alcohol and smoked marijuana.
Two days later, Mik was shocked to learn that a foreign tourist had been found dead in the area.
Investigation and Evidence
Mik’s statement aligns with the medico-legal findings, which confirmed that Mickova died from blunt force injuries to the head.
The autopsy also revealed that she was sexually assaulted.
However, beyond Mik’s testimony, police investigators are relying on scientific evidence, including DNA testing, to confirm the suspects’ involvement.
Authorities said the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) handling the case is already 80% complete in solving the crime.
