BACOLOD City – Police are looking into a work conflict as a possible motive behind the killing of a businessman who was shot by two unidentified persons on a motorcycle in Magsaysay Avenue, Henrietta Village, Barangay Singcang-Airport here last Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Ivan Magbanua, 39, of the said village.

Police Major Joery Puerto, head of Police Station 8, said Magbanua was on his way home on board a sedan when the perpetrators tailed him.

As the victim slowed down, the suspects approached and the back rider shot him at close range, Puerto said.

The perpetrators then fled along with another car believed to be driven by their accomplice.

Puerto said the victim died on the spot due to gunshot wounds in the head and arms.

Police recovered from the scene eight fired bullets from a .45 caliber firearm.

Puerto said the victim received threats since last month, according to his business manager, but the latter did not elaborate.

He said the incident was being linked to a strafing incident at an ice cream warehouse in Barangay Mandalagan last August which injured one employee.

He said Magbanua deployed 20 security guards at the warehouse, upon the request of his client.

“Possible ang motibo parte sa security agency niya, kay nag butang to siya 20 guards para mag secure ka compound,” he added.

Puerto said the victim’s client requested for guards to secure the warehouse and prevent someone from entering the compound.

Puerto said they are now reviewing a copy of a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera showing the perpetrators waiting at the area an hour before the shooting occurred.

The backrider’s face was not covered, while the motorcycle driver was wearing a helmet.
