Police confirmed on Friday that the body found in a river in Zarraga, Iloilo Thursday morning has already been identified.

Lieutenant Johnny Arnad, Zarraga police chief, said the victim was Romeo Silvila, 83, a resident of Sitio Tabucan, Bantud Fabrica village.

Reynaldo Tara, Jr., confirmed the body was that of his uncle, whom they last saw alive on April 5.

Arnad said the family did not report that the victim went missing thinking that he just stayed with other relatives living in Zarraga.

A bachelor, the victim also used to spend the night even at a police outpost in Zarraga.

The family theorized that Silvila went to check his filter net, or locally known as tangab, when he got drowned in the river.

It was also usual for him to go naked when checking on his tangab, Tara said.

They believed that there was no foul play on Silvila’s death, thus, the family refused the conduct of an autopsy.

It can be noted that an 18-year-old woman from Barangay Talaugius, Zarraga discovered the body when she went to the river to fetch water.
