The city government of Cadiz in Negros Occidental has significantly improved disaster and emergency response capabilities in seven of its barangays by providing each with state-of-the-art ambulances-cum-rescue vehicles. The recent distribution of these vehicles to Barangays VF Gustilo, Celestino Villacin, Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3, Zone 4, and Zone 6 represents a major step forward in the city’s public service efforts, particularly in disaster management.
Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr., who led the blessing ceremony for the new vehicles, emphasized the transformative impact these resources will have at the barangay level.
“Kon sang una tricyle lang ang gamiton during emergency, now we provided the best and convenient facility to transport patient or any victims of disaster cases in the barangay,” the mayor said, highlighting the shift from the previous reliance on tricycles to these advanced vehicles.
These new additions are part of a broader initiative to equip all 22 barangays in Cadiz with modern disaster vehicles, an effort that has already seen over PHP 6 million invested.
Mayor Escalante stressed that these vehicles symbolize a renewed approach to public service, particularly in addressing emergency situations.
“In the advent of challenging times prone to various disasters – natural or manmade – we also need to apprise our people with our newly appraised services meant for their good and convenience,” he stated.
The mayor also noted that the city’s approach to disaster response is encapsulated in their mantra, “Always one step ahead!”
This proactive stance, he explained, is designed to ensure that Cadiz residents are well-supported in times of need, with the city government standing by them during emergencies.
The deployment of these vehicles underscores Cadiz City’s commitment to enhancing the safety and well-being of its citizens, ensuring that emergency services are efficient, timely, and capable of meeting the demands of various disaster scenarios.
