Capiz logs first firecracker blast victim

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — This province recorded its first firecracker blast victim a day after Christmas Day.

Jeoffrey Epiritu, Development Management Officer IV and spokesperson of the Department of Health (DOH)-Capiz, confirmed that on Dec 26, a 42-year-old person from President Roxas town was wounded when a firecracker exploded in his left hand.

He said the victim, who was drunk during the incident, was taken to Bailan District Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the police reminded the public not to sell illegal firecrackers as they will be arrested.

Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) spokesperson Police Major Ruby Magallanes said that the police are strictly monitoring the selling of firecrackers in the designated areas.

Persons who sell illegal firecrackers will be arrested for violation of Republic Act 7183 (An act regulating the sale, manufacture, distribution, and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices).
