BACOLOD CITY – A woman was killed, and a young man was injured after being attacked by a carabao at Hacienda Sayson, Barangay Felisa, on Tuesday.

Police Captain Sherwin Galupar, head of Police Station 10, said the first victim, a 55-year-old woman, and the second victim, a 26-year-old man, were both residents of the village.

According to Galupar, the woman was walking near a white male carabao at around 7:30 a.m. when the aggressive animal suddenly gored her. She sustained injuries to her forehead, left ear, buttocks, left leg, and stomach, and fainted after the attack.

She passed away at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) on Wednesday at 1 p.m., a day after the incident, Galupar said.

About an hour after the first attack, the same carabao gored a young man who was gathering leaves nearby. He suffered injuries to his buttocks, both legs, right arm, and lower lip, according to Galupar.

The man remains hospitalized and is being assessed for possible surgery.

Galupar noted that it is unclear why the carabao behaved aggressively that day. Even the owner and caretaker were unable to control the animal. The carabao had also attempted to gore other individuals earlier, but they managed to avoid injury, he added.

To prevent further incidents, the owner brought the carabao to a slaughterhouse later that day. Galupar said the owner has expressed a willingness to provide assistance to the victims’ families.
