The Iloilo City COVID-19 Team has sounded alarm over the increasing number of pregnant women who tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
According to City COVID-19 Team Spokesperson Jeck Conlu, Iloilo City recorded nine positive pregnant women last September 9.
Conlu expressed alarm over the said number as the nine cases were recorded only on one day.
The nine pregnant women who tested positive for COVID-19 are from Taft North (2); Ingore (2); while Ingore, Rizal Pala-Pala 2; Don Esteban, M.H. De Dilar, and San Isidro each recorded one case.
It is still unclear how the pregnant women contracted the virus, according to Conlu.
Following COVID-19 cases involving pregnant women, Conlu said Mayor Jerry Treñas has appealed to the public especially pregnant women and those that are required to undergo medical procedures regularly like chemotherapy and kidney dialysis to refrain from leaving their houses unless for necessary purposes.
“Nag-ayo gid kita sa mga gabusong nga indi anay magwa para malessen ila exposure kag kon pwede mapalihog lang anay sila sa ila mga bana ukon relatives,” he said in a press conference on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Iloilo City government has scheduled the exclusive swabbing of patients who will undergo dialysis, chemotherapy, including pregnant women every Friday at the Jubilee Hall.
On Tuesday, the city has recorded 63 new additional Covid-19 cases bringing the total to 1,798 registered cases with 1,486 recoveries, 279 active cases, and 33 deaths. (ERS)
