Antique Provincial Election Supervisor lawyer Wil S. Arceño is optimistic that there will be higher turnout of voters in the May 9, 2022 elections with reference to the previous elections.

“We are expecting more than 80 percent turnout this election despite the pandemic,” Arceño said in a media conference.

Antique has 387,998 registered voters with 521 voting centers and 590 barangays as per data from COMELEC.

The town of Sibalom has the highest number of voters with 39,558, followed by San Jose with 37,962.

Other towns in the top five are Hamtic with 30,483, Culasi with 28,497, and Pandan with 24,806 voters.

On the other hand, the town with the least voting population is the Belison with only 9,935 voters.

Meanwhile, Arceño reiterated his call to vote early since voting will start at 6 a.m. and will end at 7 p.m. on May 9.

Every voter will be required to wear a face mask and observe physical distancing when they are in the polling precinct.

He also emphasized that cell phones should not be used to take pictures of the ballots.

Persons with special concerns such as disabilities, pregnant and seniors will be given express lanes.

Arceño also lauded the participation of various agencies of government including the media to ensure accurate and credible elections. (PIA)
