BACOLOD City – The Provincial Internal Affairs Service (PIAS) will verify the allegation of a man against an officer of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) for assault.

Police Lieutenant Abegael Donasco, Nocppo’s public information officer, said the policeman with a rank of Police Staff Sergeant detailed to the General Services Unit of Nocppo has yet to receive a formal complaint from his employee.

Donasco said the policeman is still rendering his duty at the headquarters, pending the investigation.

The complaint against the cop surfaced after one of his employees reported last Wednesday to Police Station 8 that he was allegedly manhandled due to the alleged delay in the roasting of lechon, according to Police Major Joery Puerto, station commander.

“Gin-kastigo daw siya sang police kay wala ma tapos on time ang pagluto ka lechon,” Puerto said, adding that the cop under probe has a lechon business in Barangay Singcang-Airport, which is under Puerto’s jurisdiction.

In response, Donasco said the concerned policeman urged the complainant to undergo medical check-up to determine if he had injuries.

Donasco said the cop told them that he did not maul nor assault his employee, contrary to the claim of the complainant.

“Daw slight nahawiran niya kuno pero wala niya gin-kastigo,” she added.

Despite this, Donasco said they will wait for the recommendation from IAS if there’s a need to turn over the case to Nocppo for investigation or the higher level, considering that the incident appeared to be personal and does not involve the cop in the performance of his duty.
