Expect more visible policemen on the streets and tourist destinations in the advent of the summer holidays.

The Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 has instructed all its units to conduct intensified security preparations for the Holy Week and summer vacation.

Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis, PRO-6 spokesperson, said that provincial and city police offices have mapped their security preparations for events and activities during summer vacation.

Solis said they expect that there would be an influx of tourists, both local and foreign, in terminals, piers, malls, markets, resorts and the like.

“That’s why, there’s a need for a heightened police visibility in places frequented by tourists and travelers,” he said.

Police has foreseen that tourists will flood Boracay Island, Guimaras province, and some coastal municipalities of Iloilo and Antique, given that travel restrictions have been eased up.

Solis said they would still implement strict security and observance of health protocols.

“To ensure the security and safety of the public and tourists, the local police will conduct regular visits of tourist sites and will deploy personnel for police visibility in identified areas,” he said.

Meanwhile, the security preparations would also encompass fiesta celebrations and activities related to the Holy Week.

Their focus would be on areas frequented by devotees and tourists like churches and pilgrim areas.

Solis said they would also take into consideration traffic congestion in major thoroughfares.

Meanwhile, along with these activities, PRO-6 said they would also focus on how to thwart activities by lawless elements.

For the nth time, the PNP has reiterated that the public should also take necessary precautions while attending religious activities and doing their daily work.
