A married couple died after the husband repeatedly shot his wife and then himself.
Reports from the Cabatuan Municipal Police Station stated the incident happened around 1 a.m. on August 3 in Barangay Amerang, Cabatuan, Iloilo.
Information indicated that Dan, 54, an employee of the Cabatuan local government, barged into the house unannounced.
The couple’s 20-year-old daughter, the youngest of three children, opened the door for him.
Captain Dionisio Estacio, Cabatuan police chief, said Niel could have been under the influence of liquor at the time of the incident. He allegedly came from a birthday party before entering the house he used to share with his wife and children.
Dan then turned his ire on his wife, 48-year-old Adel, and shot her repeatedly. She was hit on the left side of her face, left knee, and chest.
Dan ran outside and, upon reaching the main road, about 100 meters from their home, shot himself in the left temple.
The couple was rushed to Ramon Tabiana Memorial District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Estacio mentioned that Dan had not been staying at the house, which belonged to his wife’s family, for a while. The couple’s relationship had been troubled, with Dan’s alleged abuse of his wife cited as one of the main reasons.
Reports indicated that Dan accused his wife of having a lover, but these accusations were debunked by the victim’s family and friends.
