Two cousins, aged 16 and 10 years old, were believed to have died due to electrocution and drowning on Easter Sunday.
Samson Palma and his younger cousin, Adrian Gardoce, went for a swim in a river just 30 meters away from their home at Barangay Aglalana, Passi City, Iloilo.
Police investigation theorized that a live electric wire fell into the water which led to the fatal incident.
The wire was used to power a water pump being used by the neighborhood.
Police Staff Sergeant Gonzalo Plete Jr., Passi City police investigator, said the victims’ family attested that they knew how to swim.
“The water level is shallow. So, it’s more likely that they got electrocuted and later drowned,” he said.
Members of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Passi City were called to rescue you victims.
They tried to revive the victims but failed.
Rescuers took the two youngsters to Don Valerio Palmares Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Passi City where they were declared dead on arrival.
