BACOLOD City – 149 corn farmers in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental received their fuel cash cards from the Department of Agriculture (DA) 6, an aid to help corn farmers defray fuel expenses in corn production.

These farmers from the two farmers’ associations in San Carlos City were the first to receive such assistance from the DA in the whole of Western Visayas.

Out of the 149 farmers, 79 were from Bagonbon Small Farmer’s Association (BASFA) and 70 were from Nataban Agricultural Reform Beneficiaries Organic Farmers Association (NARBOFA), which associations are both located in the mountainous area in the city.

DA Western Visayas has allocated a total of P9,666,000 for 3,222 farmers in Region 6 to receive the fuel cash cards.

DA6 Agriculturist II Arlene P. Delos Reyes said the DA fuel cash card worth P3,000.00 each is provided to said farmers to help them especially those associations with agricultural machineries as part of food security measures since fuel prices are increasing.

“The farmers will only have to present the fuel cash card to the Petron Gasoline Station to get the fuel which will be valid for five years,” Delos Reyes said.

The Fuel Discount for Farmers and Fisherfolk program was launched March this year to cushion the impact of successive oil price hikes. (PIA)
