Daily Guardian Editor-In-Chief Is GMEA@11 Finalist for Editor of the Year

Daily Guardian editor-in-chief Francis Allan L. Angelo

Daily Guardian editor-in-chief Francis Allan L. Angelo has been named a finalist for Editor of the Year at the 11th Globe Media Excellence Awards (GMEA@11).

The nomination recognizes his transformative contributions to Philippine journalism through decades of dedicated service to ethical reporting and press freedom.

As chair of the Iloilo Media-Citizen Council and trustee for the Visayas in the Philippine Press Institute, Angelo has championed media accountability and professional excellence.

His leadership has been instrumental in strengthening journalistic standards and fostering public trust in local media.

Angelo’s global perspective, shaped by prestigious fellowships, has enriched Philippine journalism.

His participation in the US State Department’s 2022 Edward R. Murrow Program for Journalists and the 2023 Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency’s Media Self-Regulation Fellowship equipped him with innovative approaches to combat disinformation and enhance media accountability in Western Visayas.

Under his guidance, collaborations with the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism and Rappler have expanded opportunities for investigative reporting through grants and training programs.

His work with the Iloilo Press Club and development of local journalism guides has helped elevate regional reporting standards.

Expanding its reach to capture a wider range of perspectives and narratives, GMEA@11 now includes Luzon’s provincial media, alongside entries from Visayas and Mindanao, reflecting the breadth and diversity of stories from across the country.

“Storytelling is a powerful tool that connects people, fosters understanding, and inspires action within communities. Through these awards, we honor individuals who demonstrate courage and innovation in shaping a more inclusive and progressive society,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer at Globe.

This year’s #GMEA@11 celebrates outstanding achievements across three divisions: Integrated Media, Digital Storytelling, and Special Awards.

Guided by the theme “#IgnitingProgress,” the finalists were selected for their creativity, impact, and innovative application of digital media technologies.
