DILG hails ‘best performing’ local government units

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Region 6 lauded the performance of the Iloilo provincial and municipal governments in the Excellence in Local Governance (EXCELL) Awards on Dec 3, 2021.

Iloilo province was hailed champion in four of five categories – Excellence in Environmental, Economic, Social, and Administrative Governance.

The province also clinched 1st runner up for the Excellence in Local Legislation, where Aklan won as champion.

Some of the provincial government’s programs were submitted to the DILG-6 for consideration for the EXCELL Awards, which include:

  • Reverse Isolation and Contract Tracing Application (RIsCTrAp) for Administrative category;
  • Rehabilitation and Transformation of the Province to Catalyze Recovery (RT-PCR) health care program for Social category;
  • Urban Agriculture Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic for Economic category;
  • Limpyo Iloilo cleanup and waste management program for Environmental category; and
  • Financial assistance program for repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the Legislative category.

TOWNS AND CITY

Local government units (LGU) in Iloilo province also emerged victorious in the EXCELL Awards, including Passi City and the towns of Bingawan, Concepcion, and Tigbauan.

Passi City bagged the Best Performing LGU in the cities category, and the top awards in Best Local Legislation, and Best in Environmental, Economic, Administrative, and Social Governance.

New Lucena won Best Performing LGU in the 4th-6th class municipalities category, as well as Best in Local Legislation and Environmental Governance, 1st runner-up for Best in Economic Governance, 2nd runner-up for Best in Administrative and Social Governance in the same category.

Concepcion was the 1st runner-up for the Best Performing LGU in the 1st-3rd class municipalities category, and was champion for Best Economic and Social Governance, 1st runner-up for Best Environmental and Administrative Governance, and 2nd runner-up for Best Local Legislation.

Tigbauan, the 2nd runner-up in the Best Performing LGU in the 1st-3rd class municipalities category, also bagged champion for Best Environmental Governance, 1st runner-up for Best Local Legislation, and 2nd runner-up for Best Economic, Administrative, and Social Governance.

Bingawan got 2nd runner-up for Best Performing LGU in the 4th-6th class municipalities category, and also got champion for Best Economic Governance, 1st runner-up for Best Environmental, Administrative, and Social Governance, and 2nd runner-up for Best Local Legislation.

EXCELL is an awards program initiated by the DILG-6 for best managed local governments in the region showcasing the achievements in five areas: Governance, Social Services, Economic Development, Environmental Management, and Local Legislation.

This year’s awards focused on the initiatives of the LGUs to fight the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic with the theme “Rising Above the Challenge”.
