Expect a brighter and lovelier Dinagyang 2020 Floats Parade of Lights on January 24, 2019 starting 6 p.m. from the overpass in Diversion Road to Megaworld Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao district.
“It will level up to a more beautiful and memorable experience for Ilonggos and visitors. We will have a showcase of the works of Ilonggo artists,” said Joaquin Tirol Cocjin, committee chairperson, noting the Rotary Club of Iloilo South will handle the event.
Cocjin said they target 30 large floats of groups, corporations or companies for the night parade.
He added they innovate with new judging area at SM City where the floats will slowdown for spectators and turn left to Taft North to Megaworld for another judging area.
It will be capped by fireworks display.
Interested parties may contact the committee at paradeoflights2020@gmail.com and 09176288225.
Major winners will receive P300,000 for first placer; P200,000 for second placer; and P150,000 for third placer.
Cocjin said they have invited top three tribes of Bana-ag Festival of Anilao, Iloilo where performers wear lighted colourful costumes to join the parade.
He added they were also able to confirm the guest participation of Tanglawan Festival of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, touted as Guinness World Record for largest lantern parade.
PAMUKAW
Meanwhile, all is set for the Dinagyang 2020 Pamukaw on Dec. 14.
A program at 7:30 p.m. at the City Hall grounds will kick off the festival season.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas will deliver a message and declare the start of Dinagyang with the first drum beat.
Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. (IFFI) brings back the beat of the drums and street-dancing closer to spectators with a sneak peek of barangay-based tribes performing in district plazas from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The veteran tribes will revive the old vibe of merry-making in various venues: Tribu Molave – Arevalo Plaza; Familia Sagrada – Mandurriao Plaza; Tribu Parianon – Molo Plaza; Tribu Kanyao – Jaro Plaza; Tribu Aninipay – La Paz Plaza; Tribu Hamili and Sagasa – Plaza Libertad; Tribu Panaad – Sunburst Park; and Tribu Angola – SM City.
Pamukaw, being one of the most anticipated activities, will once again be staged to awaken the spirit of Dinagyang merriment in designated public areas, IFFI president Jobert Peñaflorida said.
The comeback of long-time participants will climax on Dagyang sa Calle Real set on Jan. 25 next year. (PIO)
