DPWH-6 sports fest kicks off

OFFICIALS and sports enthusiasts of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office VI and 15 District Engineering Offices recently gathered to kick off Sports Fest 2019 which aims to promote camaraderie teamwork and sportsmanship.

The opening activity started with a parade from the Regional Office to Fort San Pedro before proceeding to the Regional Equipment Services (RES) compound for the opening program.

In his welcome remarks, District Engineer Sanny Boy O. Oropel of Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office and President of District Engineers League of the Philippines (DELP) Iloilo Chapter said there is more to sports than winning.

“We all play to establish rapport and teamwork and be unified as one DPWH,” he said.

Assistant Regional Director Jose Al V. Fruto declared the formal opening of the DPWH 6 Sports Fest 2019 in behalf of Regional Director Wenceslao M. Leaño, Jr.

In his message, Fruto reminded the players to foster teamwork, which will result to a better enthusiasm and productivity at work.

“As we formally open this sports fest, remember to not just play for yourselves or your team, but for the entire Department. May we direct the purpose of this activity toward our objectives and continue uniting for a common organizational vision,” Fruto said.

District Engineer Noel L. Fuentebella of Aklan District Engineering Office led the oath of sportsmanship then followed by ceremonial tossing of ball by ARD Fruto.

The 16 teams will engage in various sports activities like basketball and volleyball, which will run until June this year, in time for the celebration of DPWH’s 121st Founding Anniversary.

Part of the opening ceremony was the tribute to the retiring Regional Director Wenceslao M. Leaño, Jr., Regional Public Information Officer Vivian C. Tan and Chief Administrative Officer Conrado A. Agot, for their dedication, passion, and commitment in supporting the endeavors of the Department. (DPWH-6/RPAIO)
