Officials and employees of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Zarraga in central Iloilo have a new, larger, and more conducive venue for public service, thanks to the newly delivered multi-purpose building by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office recently completed the PHP 5.197-million two-story building. This edifice will function as an office and a temporary shelter during emergencies. The second floor provides additional office space for municipal employees, while the ground floor features a multi-function hall for various activities benefiting both employees and residents.

According to District Engineer Mario G. Soriano’s report, Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel stated that the new building would provide officials and employees of the town with a conducive work environment and a convenient location for delivering quality service to the people.

“This new facility will enhance the morale, productivity, and efficiency of government workers by providing a larger, more conducive work environment,” Oropel said.

Oropel also noted that the building would serve as a quality service delivery venue for daily transactions with town officials and employees.

Moreover, RD Oropel added that the building would double as a tourism lounge and a multi-purpose area for various town activities.

“The ground floor will act as a hall for meetings, seminars, medical and social missions, and other government services. It will also be a hub for activities of the town’s barangays and will serve as a lounge for visitors and tourists, potentially aiding the development of the town’s tourism sector,” RD Oropel emphasized.

District Engineer Mario G. Soriano also highlighted the building’s role as a potential temporary evacuation center.

“In times of calamity and emergency, this building will offer evacuees a stronger, safer, and more comfortable refuge,” DE Soriano explained.

He further added, “This project is a testament to the robust collaboration between the DPWH and LGU, aimed at delivering quality infrastructure facilities and services to enhance the community’s quality of life.”

The DPWH continues its commitment to constructing not only roads, bridges, and flood control structures but also quality buildings that provide comfort to the public and a conducive environment for effective and efficient public service. (DPWH-6)
