The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Guimaras recently conducted back-to-back orientation and meeting sessions to reactivate the Municipal Price Coordinating Councils (MPCC) in the province.
The Consumer Protection team of DTI Guimaras collaborated with the local government units (LGUs) of Nueva Valencia and Sibunag Guimaras to ensure the successful reactivation of the MPCCs.
On June 26th and 29th, the DTI Guimaras Consumer Protection team organized informative sessions in the respective municipalities, providing an overview of the roles, functions, and key provisions of the Price Act to the MPCC members.
The aim of the reactivation is to enhance consumer welfare by actively involving the MPCCs in consumer protection activities.
DTI Guimaras OIC-PD Mutya Eusores emphasized the significance of the MPCC reactivation, stating, “By revitalizing the MPCCs in these municipalities, we are reinforcing our commitment to safeguarding consumer rights and interests.”
The participants actively engaged in the orientation sessions, sharing their insights and experiences as council members.
In Sibunag, a reconstitution of the MPCC members will be carried out, while LGU Nueva Valencia has issued a new Executive Order to establish the council under the leadership of the current Mayor.
Furthermore, it was agreed upon that regular meetings will be held to address any emerging issues and concerns. This proactive approach ensures effective collaboration between the MPCCs and the LGUs in resolving consumer-related matters.
The reactivation of the MPCCs in these two municipalities marks a productive initiative by DTI Guimaras’ Consumer Protection team. They plan to continue this effort in the remaining two towns of the province in the coming months, further strengthening their partnership with the LGUs and safeguarding the welfare of consumers.
OIC-PD Eusores assured that DTI Guimaras will continue its mission to promote consumer protection and enhance market efficiency throughout the province.
