EASTER SUNDAY NEWS: First COVID-19 case in Iloilo province out of hospital

The first confirmed case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) from Guimbal town in Iloilo province has completely recovered from the virus and was discharged Sunday just in time for the Easter Sunday celebration.

In an advisory, The Medical City Iloilo announced that the first COVID -19 case in Iloilo province has been discharged on Sunday after testing negative for the virus.

“This is to inform the public that the first COVID -19 case of Iloilo province has completely recovered and has been discharged today after his repeat COVID -19 test has shown a negative result,” Dr. Felix Ray Villa, chief executive officer of the Medical City Iloilo, said.

The patient labelled as WV. Patient No. 2 is a 65-year-old male from Guimbal who had no travel history but had exposure to a relative from Japan.

So far, six patients have recovered from coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Western Visayas, according to the Department of Health-Center for Health Development in Western Visayas (DOH-CHD).

Dr. May Ann Soliva-Sta. Lucia spokesperson of DOH-CHD 6 said the five other recoveries are from Bacolod City (2); Iloilo City (1); Negros Occidental (1), and Capiz (1).

As of Sunday, COVID-19 cases in the region is at 40 with seven deaths.

Meanwhile, The Medical City Iloilo has expressed its gratefulness for the support of the community to the healthcare workers involved in the treatment and the family of the patient from Iloilo province who recovered from COVID-19.

“We would like to thank the community for the support it has shown not just to the healthcare workers involved in his treatment but also to the patient’s family when they needed it most,” Villa said.
