A 76-year-old woman died after being sideswiped by an Asian utility vehicle on the evening of October 19 in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.
Norman Berden, a resident of Barangay Oeste, was crossing a pedestrian lane in the village when she was struck by a Toyota Innova.
The driver, John Paul Ho, 44, of Barangay Jaro, Iloilo City, reportedly did not immediately see Berden.
The vehicle’s side mirror hit the victim, causing her to fall in the middle of the road.
Her left leg was injured in the accident.
She was rushed to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City, but died shortly after.
Major Ciriaco Esquilarga, Sta. Barbara police chief, said Ho was immediately taken into police custody following the incident.
The driver was on his way to pick up family members at Iloilo International Airport when the crash occurred, police said.
Esquilarga added that both parties have agreed to an amicable settlement.
