Famous tourist spots suffer damages due to ‘Odette’

Famous tourist attractions in the town of San Joaquin, Iloilo suffered heavy damages in the aftermath of Typhoon Odette.

The Bugtong Bato Beach Resort in Brgy. Cataan which is famous for its picturesque view and unique rock formations sustained damages due to the storm surges and heavy winds caused by Typhoon Odette.

Cottages and other facilities of the resort were also destroyed during the onslaught of Odette on Thursday evening.

Another promising tourist attraction in the town, the Igbulawan Nature Farm also in Brgy. Cataan also suffered damages due to Odette.

The nature farm which once featured glamping sites, cottages, and breathtaking views of the green sceneries also sustained damage. Strong winds of Odette destroyed some of its roofing, cottages, and other infrastructures in the farm.

In its Facebook page on Friday, the Igbulawan Nature Farm announced the cancellations of all its December bookings due to the damage caused by Typhoon Odette.

“Due to the damage caused by typhoon Odette, Igbulawan farm will be temporarily closed until further notice. All bookings this December are cancelled.”

Aside from the tourist spots, coastal barangays in San Joaquin also experienced heavy damages due to the strong winds and storm surges.

In the coastal barangays of Balabago and Tiolas, storm surges swept away houses along the shores while strong winds uprooted a number of trees.

As early as Thursday, the town of San Joaquin including other towns in the Southern part of Iloilo province were placed under Storm Signal No. 3 due to Typhoon Odette.

Hence, the local government unit (LGU) of San Joaquin conducted forced evacuation of residents from the coastal barangays on Thursday evening.

Residents from the affected barangays are currently appealing for help, extra food, clothing, and other basic necessities. (ERS)
