A farmer was found dead in an irrigation canal in Pavia, Iloilo early morning of Oct 21, 2021.

Police identified the victim as Christy Heradura, 57, a resident of Barangay Tigum, the area where his body was found.

Another farmer, 43-year-old Arnold Junio, reported to the police about finding the cadaver around 5:42 a.m. Thursday.

Junio, who was residing near the irrigation canal, told police investigators that he initially mistook the body for a sack of trash.

When he checked, he saw a male body lying face down.

Major Rolando Araño, Pavia police chief, said medical responders saw no signs of foul play in the victim’s death.

“We theorized that he drowned after suffering from cardiac arrest,” he said.

Heradura’s family claimed he had been taking anti-hypertensive medicine, yet he remained alcoholic.

In fact, he went to a friend’s house and drank before he decided to go to his farm.

Residents saw him around 1:30 p.m. of Wednesday, as he was on his way to the farm.

“He could have suffered heart attack and fell face down on the irrigation canal,” Araño said.

Heradura sustained no superficial injuries.

His family indicated they no longer wanted an autopsy, as they are convinced that he died due to a natural cause.
