One of the members of the Philippine national weightlifting squad just made it into the top 10 of the Asian Weightlifting Championships.

22-year-old sensation Elien Perez cracked her way into the top 10 of one of the most prestigious weightlifting tournaments held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The prized weightlifter was able to lift the 73-kg snatch on her second attempt but could barely complete her attempt at the 76-kg snatch.

Perez pulled off an impressive run in the clean and jerk category after completing the 92-kg up to the 165-kg.

After a successful run in the clean and jerk under-165, the Filipina tried to add four more kilos but was unsuccessful in finishing the lift.

Perez was joined by other members of the PH weightlifting team in 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz, Vanessa Sarno, John Fabuar Ceniza, Kristel Macrohon, Elreen Ann Ando, Mary Flor Diaz, Margaret Colonia, and John Dexter Tabique.

The Asian Weightlifting Championships is only a part of a six-event series of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) that will help Diaz formally seal her participation in Tokyo.
