The RLC Residences’ IRONKIDS Davao is set to kick off on August 10 at the Davao Coastal Road, promising a thrilling showcase of young triathlon talents across the Philippines.
This year, the event returns with a duathlon and a run format, targeting increased participation by focusing on running and biking events for various age groups.
Following the success of the swim-bike-run race held in Subic last June, the IRONMAN Group/Sunrise Events, Inc., in partnership with the host city, has reintroduced the duathlon format.
The event features four age-group categories in the individual competition and two in the relay category.
Special kids run segments will also be included, with a 1km race for the 6-10 age bracket and a 3km race for the 11-15 age group.
The duathlon events will see participants aged 6-8 compete in an 800m run, a 2km bike ride, and a 400m run.
The 9-10 category will tackle a 1km run, a 6km bike ride, and a 500m run. Athletes aged 11-12 will race over a 2km run, an 8km bike ride, and a 1km run, while the premier 13-15 division will cover a 3km run, a 10km bike ride, and a 1.5km run.
All participants are recognized as winners for their efforts and participation.
The IRONKIDS event serves as an appetizer to the main IRONMAN 70.3 Davao Philippines on August 11, which has attracted over a thousand entries.
Former champions such as Petr Lukosz of the Czech Republic and Eric van der Linden will headline this year’s competition, along with top athletes from Japan, Singapore, Great Britain, Australia, China, and Hong Kong.
Local talents Irienold Reig Jr., Jonathan Pagaura, Mervin Santiago, and Julian Teves will also be competing.
The weekend of racing will commence with the 2GO Gwapa Dabawenya Run on August 9, featuring a 5k fun run with over 2,000 participants.
The relay category for the IRONKIDS will include mixed teams for the 6-10 age bracket, covering an 800m run, a 2km bike ride, and a 400m run, while the 11-15 category will compete in a 2km run, an 8km bike ride, and a 1km run.
IRONKIDS has played a crucial role in nurturing young triathlon talent and promoting a healthy, active lifestyle among children, while also preventing gadget addiction by encouraging physical activity. The IRONMAN 70.3 Davao powered by Aboitiz marks a significant return for the premier endurance race in Davao, the “King City of the South.”
