The headline inflation rate of Guimaras province continued to move at a slower pace of 3.2 percent in January 2019, the slowest inflation of the province for the past 13 months with a deceleration of 1.5 percentage points than the December 2018 level of 4.7 percent.

The slowdown of inflation in January 2019 was mainly attributed to the decelerated indices of non-food particularly on Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, which dropped by 1.7 percentage points and the Transport sector which recorded 3.9 percentage points decrease.

The commodity groups which showed minimal gain of not more than one percent in January 2019 compared to December 2018 include: Food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.4%); Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (0.05%); Recreation and Culture (0.09%); and Restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services (0.09%). The increase did not offset the huge dropped in the transport sector and the Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels.

Meanwhile, four commodity groups posted steady indices: the clothing and footwear at an index of 112.3; Furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house at 133.0; Communication and Education at 99.9 and 116.6 index, respectively.
