The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office, in collaboration with all five municipalities of the province, has successfully launched the 2024 Census of Population and Community-Based Monitoring System (POPCEN-CBMS) through a series of roadshow activities known as “Bandilyo.”
The Bandilyo, conducted from July 10-12 and 15, was aimed at raising public awareness and encouraging participation in the nationwide census, which commenced on July 15.
“This was participated by the members of the Municipal Census-CBMS Coordinating Board, PSA and LGU focal persons, Census Area Supervisors, and Enumerators,” said Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare, highlighting the collaborative effort behind the campaign.
The Bandilyo campaign involved a mapped route that accessed all barangays within the province’s municipalities.
During these visits, the official POPCEN-CBMS public announcement was broadcasted, and brochures and primers were distributed to the local populace, tricycle operators, and drivers to ensure widespread dissemination of information.
Losare, who led the PSA personnel during the barangay visits, emphasized the crucial role that local government units (LGUs) play in the successful implementation of these major statistical undertakings.
She also called on barangay officials and personnel to actively support and cooperate in the census by facilitating effective information campaigns and assisting field personnel in reaching households, particularly those in geographically isolated and hard-to-reach areas.
The data collected from the 2024 POPCEN-CBMS will serve as a vital resource for government planners, policymakers, and various national and local government agencies.
The information is expected to guide the development of evidence-based programs and policies aimed at fostering inclusive growth and development across the country.
