Guimaras Showcases Talent in 35th Civil Registration Month

Young Guimarasnons displayed their creativity and talent as the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Guimaras, in partnership with the province’s five Local Civil Registry Offices (LCROs), concluded the 35th Civil Registration Month (CRM) on Feb. 26, 2025, at the OMAS Function Hall in Poblacion, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras.

Participants showcased their artistic, literary, and performing skills through a Poster Making Contest, Binalaybay (a traditional spoken poetry competition), and an Interpretative Dance of the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) jingle, Masasagot.

Elementary students competed in the Poster Making Contest, while junior and senior high school students participated in the Interpretative Dance and Binalaybay competitions, respectively.

Contest Winners

Miles M. Lamela of Buenavista Central School won first place in the Poster Making Contest. Chris Paul Jay O. Cordero of Sabang Elementary School, Sibunag, and Megan Grace Magno of San Roque Elementary School, Nueva Valencia, placed second and third, respectively. Consolation prizes were awarded to Zyanna A. Bitalac of Fiscal Jose M. Zambarrano Sr. Memorial School, San Lorenzo, and Marnhane Rogel G. Torres of Jordan Central School.

For the Binalaybay Contest, Gabriel L. Degala of Desiderio C. Gange National High School, Sibunag, took the top spot. Sharra Marie Pescadera of Getulio National High School, Buenavista, placed second, while Tryxia T. Gregorio of Simeon J. Jabasa National High School, Nueva Valencia, finished third. Consolation prizes were awarded to Precious Ashleigh G. Baling of Remedios E. Vilches-San Lorenzo National High School and Lloyd Shidear Graque of Sta. Teresa National High School, Jordan.

In the Interpretative Dance Contest, Nueva Valencia National High School was crowned champion. Sibunag National High School placed second, Desiderio C. Gange National High School of San Lorenzo ranked third, and Getulio National High School of Buenavista took fourth place.

The top three winners of the Interpretative Dance competition received certificates of recognition and cash prizes of PHP3,000, PHP2,000, and PHP1,500, while non-winners received PHP1,000. The top three winners in the Binalaybay and Poster Making contests were awarded PHP2,000, PHP1,500, and PHP1,000, respectively, with PHP500 consolation prizes given to other participants.

 

Event Highlights

The panel of judges included Angel Babes Pauchano, Project Development Officer II from the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO); Nelida B. Losare, Provincial Statistics Officer from PSA-Guimaras; and Mark Kelly R. Zaldivar, Teacher III from Jordan National High School.

Nueva Valencia Mayor Atty. Paul Vincent G. de la Cruz graced the event, welcoming participants and commending PSA-Guimaras and the five LCROs for spearheading the month-long celebration.

Losare reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to improving civil registration services and raising awareness of the importance of registering vital events.

“Building a Resilient, Agile, and Future-Fit Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System underscores our commitment to ensuring a responsive statistical system that supports the needs of every Filipino while also providing a platform for students to showcase their creativity and talents,” Losare said.

Guimaras Civil Registrars Association Inc. (GCRAI) President and Jordan Municipal Civil Registrar Jesusa M. Millondaga delivered the closing remarks, thanking teachers, students, PSA, LCRO staff, and local leaders for their support in making the event successful.

PSA-Guimaras expressed its gratitude to all contestants, local government partners, schools, and stakeholders for their invaluable support.

“We remain committed to promoting a resilient and future-ready civil registration system for all Guimarasnons,” Losare added.
